ACHIM FAERBER-BEIER 1.5 STEEL–5.5 X 14-AUTOMAT SOUNDTRACK WINS BEST MOVIE SOUNDTRACK-CHICAGO INTERNATIONAL MOVIES & MUSIC FESTIVAL-EISBRECHER GOLD AWARD-

I stay in touch with Achim Faerber, and every time I see an email from him I know it is something great. He is into so much, & I always cannot wait to hear his latest update on what he is doing. He, like so many…Has been a great friend to me, and has been an avid supporter of my gear.

This time he had several things that were wonderful to hear. One of the many acts he performs and records with is Automat, the Berlin based electronic trio that has received critical praise from music reviewers, and fans alike. They have released five albums in the last three years, toured Europe & Australia, and without a doubt will continually produce a lot of material. In short: They are just too talented, and too popular not to.

Last month at the Chicago International Movies & Music Festival, Automat won the Best Soundtrack for the movie Desire Will Set You Free. Achim Faerber used his 1.5 Steel–5.5 x 14 on the track, as he has for all of the bands work.

Another one of his long running positions has been behind the kit for industrial metal giants Eisbrecher. They just received their two Gold Awards on stage recently for their last album “Schock”, and their album “Die Holle Muss Warten”. This is great to see in today’s business side of  musical production. While this is no place to dialogue on the effects of file sharing, downloading, and streaming in this business, to see artists recognized and profit from their work makes me very happy for them. The amount of work that goes into productions of all types is expensive, and extensive. If people want to continue to experience original musical composition…It is imperative to support them by buying their music.

April also saw a release from Danny Dziuk that Achim used his 1.5 Steel–5.5 x 14 on. The record was released on April 8th:  “Wer Auch Immer, Was Auch Immer, Wo Auch Immer.” Achim used his 1.5 Steel–5.5 x 14 on the entire record. Ben Lukas Boysen has a release date of June 10th coming for his latest: “Spells”. Achim used his 1.5 Steel–5.5 x 15 on two tracks of this.

As always Achim….Thank You for your friendship & support, Congratulations Again on all your success, and will look  forward to talking to you soon….

JULES RADINO-BLUE OYSTER CULT- AT&T AUDIENCE NETWORK CONCERT SERIES-BEIER 1.5 STEEL–6.5 X 14….

Was great to hear from Jules Radino of Blue Oyster Cult last month and to see this pic of his kit on the set from their show. The band was taping a spot with Cheap Trick as part of the AT&T Audience Network Concert Series. That was an on going event that ran from 4/14-5/3, and it featured many of today’s top artists.

Jules had his 1.5 Steel–6.5 x 14 which he has been using live for quite some time now. When they rolled through Milwaukee several months ago he had it as well, and I was of course really happy about that. He is an incredibe player, and they way he has the drum set up…It just simply sounded fantastic. He uses Attack heads which I have always been impressed with, and have used with Mark Ortmann of the Bottle Rockets, and David Dix of The Outlaws. They have a very natural and open sound, are durable, and in my opinion…..Are extremely underrated.

I will be seeing Jules on July 2nd for a BOC concert here. He will be playing a 1.5 Steel–8 x 14 for the show which I am really looking forward to bringing out. Along with the 1.5 Steel–6.5 x 14, he also has a 1.5 Steel–4 x 15. and 5.5 x 15, both of which he has used live. Links below for several live clips of him with the drums.

Thanks Again for everything Jules Radino….See you guys soon…

TOMMY HARDEN-IN THE STUDIO IN NASHVILLE-BEIER 1.5 STEEL–5.5 X 14….

Without a doubt, Tommy Harden is one of the most respected and accomplished drummers in Nashville. He is a first/top call studio drummer, and an incredible overall talent. Plus, he is just simply a great guy as well. His introduction to my drums was in Las Vegas. He was there with Reba, and he was watching Mark Beckett play from the side of the stage during his set with Olivia Newton John. Mark was playing his 1.5 Steel–4 x 15 which he designed. He absolutely loved it, and asked him about it after the show. Since that time…He has used that drum non-stop in sessions, and it is one of his primary go-to drums.

He recently fired up his 1.5 Steel–5.5 x 14 for the first time in the studio, and had the below comment on it. I always had the feeling he would might connect to this drum, and he has. Really looking forward to hearing some of the material he has played on with it.

Thanks Again Tommy For Everything…I really appreciated the message yesterday as well. I love reading and hearing your updates on Lost Hollow Band with Lorrie. All the best to both of you, and wishing you continued success….

“The 1.5 Steel–5.5 x 14 is a great combination of beef & crack. It’s hard to get that sound for me. Great drum…”

KEVIN BROWN-BACK IN THE STUDIO-BEIER 1.5 STEEL–5.5 X 15-NEW MUSIC FOR KNOTT’S BERRY FARM…

Was great to recently hear from Kevin Brown of the The Show Ponies and get an update on the band, and his use of his 1.5 Steel–5.5 x 15.

Due to a schedule change, I was not able to see them this year in Wisconsin. That was disappointing…I was really looking forward to it. The band is constantly touring, but this time they had to be in the studio. They were recording new music that will be used at Knott’s Berry Farm in California. Kevin used his 1.5 Steel–5.5 x 15 for the tracks, as he has for everything these days. It is also his live drum. He really, really is into the drum, and it is great to hear his insights.

Tx Again Kevin…Always awesome to hear from you. Hope to see you and the band soon….

EMP RECORDING ARTISTS DOLL SKIN-LIVE-MEGHAN HERRING-BEIER 1.5 STEEL–5.5 X 15….

David Ellefson’s EMP recording artists Doll Skin have been out on the road, and it was great to see these girls live last month.

They are out in support of their debut record “In Your Face” which was re-released last month on EMP Label Group. The album was Recorded/Engineered by John Aqulinos, Produced by David Ellefson, Mixed by Ryan Greene, and Audio/Video was done by Randy Walker. The entire record was done with a 1.5 Steel–5.5 x 15 that John Aqulinos picked up after a recommendation from Randy Walker. Randy also owns Media 22 Productions where he has one of the drums in that size as well. The touring 1.5 Steel–5.5 x 15 is in Gloss White, and it was great to see it out on the road and hearing that Meghan absolutely loves the drum.

These girls are simply great live. Think of The Runaways…But heavier & edgier. They have received extensive press and the response to them has been huge. Congrats to all of you. Thanks as well to John Aqulinos for picking up a 1.5 Steel–5.5 x 15 for your studio, Patrick Smallish for permission to use his live shot of Meghan from that night, and to Randy Walker…Was great to see you my friend…

RUSS WHITMAN-LIVE WITH CRAIG MORGAN-BEIER 1.5 STEEL–5.5 X 14…6.5 X 13…6.5 X 15…

Russ Whitman is back out on the road this Spring with Craig Morgan, and I could not be happier he has all three of his Beier Drums out with him on tour. He is using a 1.5 Steel–6.5 x 13 as his main, a 1.5 Steel–6.5 x 15 as an auxiliary, and his 1.5 Steel–5.5 x 14 as a back-up. The 5.5 x 14 he also has used as his main, on the recent single by Craig: “When I’m Home”, and at a live performance at the Liberty Bowl this year. The set of pics below are from a performance in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Russ is an Evans endorser, and it was really interesting for me to use his requested heads. I used the Generra on the 6.5 x 13 and 5.5 x 14, and have to say I was extremely impressed by this head. I used the G14 on the 6.5 x 15, and my initial impression was great as well with that.

Thanks Again Russ….Really looking forward to seeing you this Summer, and to you firing up your new 1.5 Steel–4 x 15….

BOTTLE ROCKETS-LIVE IN MILWAUKEE-MARK ORTMANN-BEIER 1.5 STEEL–6.5 X 14….

The Bottle Rockets recently rolled through Milwaukee, and of course I was at the show. No way I would ever miss this band live. They are one of my all-time favorites…And always will be. Roots Rock has always struck a huge chord in me, and The Bottle Rockets, as a band, in this genre, have always been at the top of the list with music fans. This tour was them and Marshall Crenshaw, who they were also the band for. Have seen these two on tour before, and it is always a great musical evening, and a lot of fun.

Mark Ortmann has been using a 1.5 Steel–6.5 x 14 exclusively live for some time now, and included it on a track on their new record: South Broadway Athletic Club. He has the greatest way of tuning this drum and his kit. They always all sound fantastic. The minute I walked in I could hear he had the snare tuned open and washy. He usually has the drum tuned to Mids, but this sounded fantastic. The club has a low ceiling and is small, and it fit the evening and the music perfectly.

The night before they were in Chicago and Brad Elvis (The Handcuffs/The Romantics) was at the show with Chloe Orwell, who is the lead vocalist and guitar player for The Handcuffs. Mark said Brad was standing at the back of the room and asked him later: “Is that a Beier Snare you are playing?”. That was a huge compliment. That is precisely what I am trying to accomplish here at Beier Drums: A consistent and identifiable sound. Brad also has several of my drums, and has performed live with them with The Romantics and The Handcuffs on a number of occasions.

Mark also uses Attack Heads which are impressive. I have used them before for drums for Jules Radino of Blue Oyster Cult, and David Dix of The Outlaws on an early drum of mine. They always have this wonderful open, and very natural sound.

Thanks Again Mark and to all of you guys. Without fail, it is always a great time to see all of you, and you were phenomenal live as always. Link below for a great clip of Mark live last Summer with his 1.5 Steel–6.5 x 14. He really is the Charlie Watts of Roots Rock. He is so steady, so consistent, and he always-always has the discipline to stay with the music, and never jump out of it. To me, that is drumming. That is music….
